You, In Bloom.

About a month ago I launched my new website.

At the same time, I launched a new blog: You, In Bloom.

A blog dedicated to naturopathic medicine and the focus of my practice: helping people find the possibility in their lives. Finding ways to take care of yourself, inside and out.

The thing is, I've been terrible about updating it. Though I'm passionate about what I do, I am really resistant to maintaining so many social media sites....3 blogs, 3+ Facebook pages, Twitter (WTF is Twitter?)...it's too much for me right now.

In an attempt to simplify, I'm going to dedicate the occasional blog on this site to You, In Bloom.
I hope you enjoy!!

Pine Needle Tea

I've been fighting a terrible head cold & cough for the past 2 weeks.

Things are getting better with lots of sleep, a bit of exercise and some herbs. Today I thought I'd add in some (very festive!) Pine Needle Tea.

Pine Needle Tea contains 4-5 times the Vitamin C of fresh-squeezed OJ and it's high in Vitamin A
It is an expectorant (helps to clear mucous) and a decongestant.
It's great for the immune system!

Here's how to make it:
1. Gather a small amount of pine needles. The younger the better! Each varietal of pine tastes a bit different so experiment until you find one you really like.

2. Wash a trim the needles into small pieces. Place in a mug.

3. Pour boiling water over the needles. They will float to the top.

4. Allow the tea to steep until most of the needles have dropped to the bottom.

5. Drink!

*The kind of pine needles I chose this morning is quite bitter, so I added a wedge of lemon to my tea to improve the taste!

Happy Healthy Monday!

  1. Dear Jillian,

I was reading the story this morning in "Kingston Life Interiors" about the remodel of your home. I was delighted to see you bathroom vanity as I used to own that! I bought it at Turk's for about $50 many years ago, painted it white, changed the knobs, and used it as a TV stand for years. My husband and I used to live at Mack and MacDonnell and I had put it out to the side of the road hoping someone would love it and take it home. A real estate agent stopped to admire it and I helped her load it into her car. That was the last time I saw it until this morning. I'm glad it's gone to a good home and it looks beautiful repurposed as a vanity!

    Sincerely,

    Sarah D.
