The Election is Over.
Barack is Back.
I'm not exactly sure what that means for me, as a Canadian, but I find myself completely invested.
I think is stems back to fours years ago, at this time, watching President Obama's inauguration.
Winnie was just over a month old.
I held this new little baby as I watched, with tears in my eyes.
What an incredible thing!
I realized that my little one will never know a world where a black man can't be president.
She'll never know a world where a woman can't run for (or be!) president.
We talk openly about women marrying women and men marrying men, because they love each other.
It's as normal, and obvious, as that.
She was named after her great grandmother, but what a different life she will have.
Things keep changing.
For the most part, things are getting better, I think.
I hope.
Very nice. But we won't truly be free until the tyranny of pants is over. And that day, when I see a president proudly decked out in assess chaps, I will cry, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a moment that will be!
