Easy Curtains

We have a lot of windows in this house and, for the moment, we're living in a bit of a fish bowl. Thankfully, some well-placed trees are providing a bit a privacy and a few panels of cheap affordable, easy-to make curtains are now adorning our windows.

I had the idea for these curtains in the As Is section of Ikea. I found duvet covers marked way down ($10 each) and thought they'd make super curtains for my powder room and kids room.

I took them home, sliced them right up the middle (vertically), flipped them inside-out and sewed ONE seam (with space to flip them back, of course). I then cut and finished holes for a curtain rod. It took all of 15 minutes to complete a panel and they look fab, though I apologize for the pics. My interior design photography is still a work-in-progress....the pics don't do the curtains justice!

Girls Bedroom

Powder Room

I still need to get a room darkening blind for the girls bedroom as the curtains just aren't cutting it in the area of room darkening (I am tired of getting woken at 5:30am with the sun!) but they just look so sweet.....

The weird thing? Right before Pippa was born I went to visit a friend who was also in the midst of a renovation....same story: pregnant, trying to finish the house before the baby, still a work in progress, blah, blah, blah......and guess what? She had the same curtains up in her daughter's room! She saw the duvet cover in As-Is and had the same idea. Love it!

Anyone else doing any fun re-cycling/up-cycling these days?
