Have you seen the Dawn commercial where the baby animals covered in oil are cleaned using Dawn? I used to cry at that commercial. Everytime. That was until my friend, T's, husband pointed out the small writing in the corner of the screen: this is a dramatization. He also pointed out that I was a moron:)
I can't help it though. The thought of animals and plants and water being destroyed by tons of oil kind of kills me. It's awful. Watching the news in the gulf makes me want to get up and DO something. Unfortunately, I think after seeing it on the news daily, for weeks on end, we all get a little desensitized. We forget to be offended and appalled because we're used to seeing it.....
This article by Ecoholic's Adra Vasil has re-motivated me. Great, simple ideas on how you can help. Right now. Wherever you are. Take the time to read it, especially the parts about Canadian legislation. Interesting....

I think adopted birds might be the new birthday gift for the rest of the year!
It's hard not only watching what it's doing to the environement, but also the fisherman who made their living in what is now destroyed. They are not only out of a job, but their entire lifestyle is gone.
ReplyDeleteI talk to a marine biologist who was working on the spill for quite awhile. She works with the fisherman daily, and always talks about how heartbreaking it is.
This is a fabulous video of a local crawfish farmer/ offshore rig worker.
