Eco Eats!

I know it's not back to school time yet (1 more month! 1 more month!) but I'm always looking for better ways to take food to work/pre-school. In our house, we avoid plastic as much as we can but after a year of breaking travel mugs and dishes I'm a bit fed up with glass! As I write, I am picking a shard of glass out of my foot, as my toddler seems to be breaking my dishes faster then I can clean them up.....

So, I thought I'd share a few eco-friendly, durable, healthy alternatives to typical Tupperware:

For Work/School:
1. LunchBots
I have a similar set of glassware but am always concerned about the dishes breaking en route. This is a sturdy lunch pail that is plastic free (stainless steel container and lid) that can easily be chucked in briefcases and school bags. $18

They also do a stainless steel children's dish set! $25

2. Reusable Sandwich wrappers and Snack bags by EcoLunchGear.
These plastic alternatives and made from 100% organic cotton with a nylon liner, they open completely for easy cleaning and double as a placemat.....which is great when you eat at your desk...like moi. By avoiding the use of plastic lunch bags you are saving money, the environment and your health. Featured in E The Environmental Magazine, last fall. $9

3. This is not a Paper Cup
Okay, so it's still glass (porcelain) but I love these, especially in red! I think they're super cute and great for saving loads of paper cups. Around $20

For Toddlers:
1. The Din Din Stainless Steel Bus Platter
Maybe a bit expensive at $17.99, this plate is nevertheless eco-friendly and FUN! I love love love it!

2. The Bambu Bamboo Spork
Part spoon, part fork, 100% bamboo. I love this utensil because:
a. it isn't plastic
b. it doesn't get hot like stainless steel when eating hot foods
c. Winnie is learning to use a fork and we still have our vision!
$4

3. Klean Kanteen (with adaptable nipple, sippy lid or spout)
We've been using these since Winnnie was 8 months old. They have been everywhere, done everything and are still in great shape! Made of food grade stainless steel and BPA free sippy attachment these are safe and durable. I love these so much, I gave them out as Christmas presents a couple of years ago! $17

Do you have any other favorites? Do tell!

  4. I found them at Canadian Kids Furniture today, too (just over $20 each!). Will check Go Green Baby, too...I know there are a few "starting solids" items that I want there.

  5. Sweet! I have bamboo utensils from to-go ware that I love, and the eco lunch wraps, which we use every day.

Picnics are so good! I hope you get to have one tomorrow in fact!
