DIY Concrete Planters & The BEST Strawberry Salad Dressing!!

Mother's Day was really nice....

I made lunch for 12 which seems very un-Mother's Day-ish...but I had lots of help and I really do love doing it!

After a fall of party party party I tend to hibernate a bit during the winter months.
Mother's Day Lunch always marks the beginning of the summer party season and I love the feel of getting back into the social swing of things.

Lunch was amazing.....if I do say so myself.

Le Menu:
Barbecued Chicken and Beef Skewers
Citrus Avocado Spinach Salad with Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
A Strawberry Salad with Toasted Pecans and Feta (Fresh Strawberry-herb Dressing below!)
Ciabatta with Lemony Cream Cheese, Chopped Tomatoes and Basil

Lemon Cherry Cheesecake (Thanks to Jamie's Mum!)

The strawberry salad was by far my favortie.....this dressing is the first new salad dressing I've seen in awhile. I love it!

Adapted from Cafe Johnsonia.

Fresh Strawberry-Herb Salad Dressing
1 1/2 Cups of Strawberries
2 Tbsp of Honey
1 Tbsp of chopped fresh basil
BIG pinch of salt and pepper
1/2 tsp of Dijon Mustard
1/4 Cup of Balsamic Vinegar
1/2 Cup of Olive Oil

Blend it all in the blender/food processor until smooth.

I poured this over a mix of fresh greens, fresh sliced strawberries, thinly sliced red onion, toasted pecans, and feta.

Oh, and those DIY concrete planters......
I am in love. Jamie and I both are. I think we are going to make 100 or 1000.
I first saw them over at Little Green Notebook.

We decided to give them a try as Mother's Day Gifts. We didn't let them set quite long enough and the smaller ones cracked (not to worry! We'll remake them!) but the ones that turned out are gorgeous.

We filled them with soil and some flowers and mamas got to take them home.

We also love to fill all of OUR flower pots on Mother's Day. A sweet little tradition.

So, we bundled up in hats and toques and filled those planters....and then Jamie promptly brought them all inside so they won't FREEZE tonight?!??!
