When Great DIY Projects Go Wrong.....

In the spring I had the great idea to make this huge pendant for our open foyer area:

I gathered materials and then Winnie and I spent a very messy, kinda frustrating morning getting things set up just right.

And then we left to get groceries, allowing our work of art to dry.

When we got home this is what we found:

Really? Really?!

I'm not sure if the balloon just broke or a squirrel got at it, but our light fixture was a bust. Winnie and I just stood there, staring at the mess, completely exasperated {her words, not mine}.

I cleaned up and, though I had extra material, decided to put the project on hold....it had just been that kind of week.

But the lesson in all of this is: things always happen for a reason.

I know this, but I forgot. I was too mad to remember.

I got a reminder a few weeks later when I rushed down to a design shop in Kingston called Dwell. The owner, Jen Storey, had helped us design our house and was closing up her shop to focus on her interior design business. I had a gift certificate that needed to get spent pronto. I didn't really need anything and had picked out a number of knick knacks, nice stuff but nothing special, to spend my money on.....and then I found this:

My light fixture! The one I was destined to have. I love it so much. It's this gorgeous piece of art hanging in our foyer.

Now, it was a bit more expensive than my string fixture, and a hell of a lot more than I had a gift certificate for BUT it was really on sale and Jen wanted some of the leftover barn board from our floors. So we bartered, I payed $100 for the fixture. Pretty amazing.

Everything does happen for a reason.
