Spring Cleaning and Greening: Part IV

As promised yesterday, juicing recipes…

Juicing is scary for most people. I think it feels overwhelming and hard, but juicing is a really simple way to exponentially increase the nutrition in your diet, alkalinize the body (helps prevent illness)......and it's an easy way to get green things into kids!

When I first started, I stuck to basic, mostly fruit based, recipes:
A few carrots and a bunch of oranges, with maybe a peach thrown in....delicious.

Then I became more adventurous. I started adding green foods to my fruit juices:
2 apples, 2 pears, some grapes, a handful of spinach and a stick of celery. Yum!

Now I really truly love all of the weirdo juices out there. They are so fresh and sweet and, believe it or not, kinda filling.

The juice recipes below are from Organic Avenue a member-based collective (community) that promotes organic vegan, raw-food eating.

Organic Avenue offers "detoxification programs, the most incredible Hemp & Organic Clothing, Raw Food Staple Products, Fresh Live Organic Produce, Raw Food Classes, Gourmet Raw Dinners, Conscious Events, Holistic Healing Retreats, Water Ionizers and much, much, more!"

Unfortunately, they are in New York, so their cleanse programs and products are not readily available in little ol' Kingston. In an effort to bring a little NY, NY to you, I've swiped a couple of their amazing juice recipes from a feature on GOOP. Enjoy!

YoungLOVE* Green Juice
• 12 oz celery juice (¾ of whole bunch or ¾ lb celery)
• 12 oz spinach juice (1 whole bunch or just under 1 lb spinach)
• 12 oz cucumber juice (1 large or ¾ lb cucumber)
Makes 2 servings.

MellowLOVE* Green Juice
• 6 oz spinach juice (½ bunch or just under ½ lb spinach)
• 8 oz celery juice (½ bunch or ½ lb of celery)
• 6 oz cucumber juice (½ large or 1/3 lb cucumber)
• 12 oz romaine lettuce juice (1 bunch or 1 lb romaine lettuce)
• ½ oz parsley juice (1/3 bunch or 1 oz fresh parsley)
• Small pinch of Himalayan salt
Makes 2 servings.

Check out my 1980’s Moulinex juicer. It was a gift from my aunt Linda when I started naturopathic school. You could drop this baby out a window and it would bounce back and keep right on juicin’. .....
