Spring Cleaning and Greening: Part III

It’s about that time….the months of hibernation and comfort food eating are over and I’m ready to clean up and clear out!

After 3 months of a “relax and enjoy” approach to life, I’m ready for a bit of discipline and the satisfaction that comes with it!

Starting May 3rd I will be leading a 14 day “Lean and Clean” mind-body cleanse from the new clinic. dallas delahunt of studio 330 will lead us through a daily detoxifying yoga practice and I will be designing the food & supplement regime. For all those who are interested in joining me, come on out to an information night at The Live Well Center, Wednesday April 28th at 7:30 pm. We’ll kick off the cleanse with info on the philosophy behind regular detoxification, an intro to the plan, some healthy snacks and fun!

The Live Well Centre, 348 Bagot Street, Suite 101

For those who can’t be with us, here are 5 changes you can make TODAY to clean up (and GREEN up!) your diet:

1. Cut out the caffeine and sugar.
This is HUGE! Give yourself 3-4 days to adjust, especially if the mere thought of no coffee gives you a headache! This includes sodas, chocolate and black teas.

2. Increase water consumption….to 2-3L/day. Water with lemon is particularly great for the detoxification system.

3. Eat GREEN! Green vegetables that is! Have at least one large serving of green leafys everyday. Spinach, baby greens, kale, swiss chard, and broccoli are all awesome options! These veggies are jam-packed with nutrients and help our liver metabolize hormones.

4. Try Juicing. I am in love with my juicer. Seriously. Juicing may seem daunting, but this is the perfect time of year to up the nutrient content of your day with vitamin/mineral/enzyme rich fresh juices…check out tomorrow for recipe ideas!

5. Try a Meat free Monday! Launched by Sir Paul McCartney in the UK, Meat Free Mondays are encouraging non-vegetarians to reduced meat consumption and up their veggie intake. Eating more vegetables is not only great for your health but also good for the planet too! UN’s top climate scientist Rajendra Pachauri states that “People should consider eating less meat as a way of combating global warming. UN figures suggest that meat production puts more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than transport.”

Al Gore says: initiatives like Meat Free Monday “represent a responsible and welcome component of a comprehensive strategy for reducing global warming pollution and simultaneously improving human health." And what Al Gore says, goes....

During the cleanse I will be posting daily tips and tricks for getting “Lean and Clean”, as well as inspirational quotes, ways to clean up the home/local environment and recipes.

Starting May 3rd, check in everyday to follow along....
