The Family Wall.

At our last house we had a family wall. It was my favorite thing in the house.
A beautiful collection of extra special family photos covering a wall in our dining room.

When we moved, we wrapped those photos in newspaper, tucked them in a box and there they have stayed for well over a year.

I've missed our family wall so much but it's a lot of work to get all of those photos out and cleaned and arranged and on the wall and, besides, we haven't had trim so it's been almost impossible to hang anything at all.....and so, in their box they've stayed.

Then, on Friday night I realized that (hallelujah!) our trim is actually done and that we might be able to start dressing up the walls. I had no intention of tackling the family wall as I had big dreams of updating the collection with 12+ new photos and frames and, well it just seemed a bit overwhelming....

So I started with one little, innocuous print. I dressed up one tiny little corner of our main floor.

And I was hooked. One picture and I felt so much more "moved in". Like the place was really, finally, ours.

I was inspired. I was motivated. I was pumped up on caffeine.
I decided to attack the family wall.

Winnie and I spent Saturday afternoon picking new photos to add to our collection (we added 30!), printing photos, and picking out frames. Then we came home and started putting everything together. We hadn't planned very well (always the best way) so we just started putting things together as best we could. Then we got tired and left it all on the floor.....

Sunday morning, with Pippa in bed for a nap, we got to work hanging the pics. I did the directing and creative. Jamie did all the hard work. Ha!

The Finished Product
{there are some photos missing and we need some tiny frames for around the light switch, but it's done enough}

Admittedly, I was a bit unsure of the wall at first. Our clean modern aesthetic had been replaced by busy, busy, busy.....but when I woke up this morning and came down to that FULL wall of smiling faces, I felt pleased. And happy. And at home.

It's going to be a good week!
