There are a million things left to do and we're both antsy to GET THEM DONE, but the days with our newborn continue to melt away and just when we think we've got things figured out, just when I get excited to carve out an hour or two for house-y things...the schedule changes and nothing gets done. So,
I will however, give you a preview of a few things on said "to-do in the next 5 years" list. In no particular order......
1. The Sun Room.
This is at the top of the list. It's will be our exit to the backyard and main entrance from the driveway. It is, at the moment, our favorite dumping ground and storage of junk. We need to clean it out, sand and stain the floors, tile the entry area, build storage for coats and boots, and, finally, make some stairs/decks to get us safely to the backyard/drive way. This job's gonna be a biggie but the weather is turning and soon we'll be living outdoors more than in. It's a must do.
2. The Plywood Counter top
...Won't always be plywood, we hope. Eventually, we plan to have Jamie build us a polished concrete counter top. Can't wait! Until then, we hope to put a solid piece of plywood over the entire island...so little pieces of food and other surprises stop showing up in my utensil drawers!
3. Kitchen Shelving
We've opted for a very clean kitchen design. No upper cabinets, keeping the space light, bright and airy. That being said we need some storage. So, we're half-way towards some modern open shelving. We need finish pieces and then we need to decide if we're going to paint or stain these puppies...
4. The Scaaaaary Basement Stairs
The basement is currently a disaster. I don't even like to go down there to do laundry (thanks to my husband, I don't have to!) and I cannot wait until we get it fixed up....unfortunately, that will be WAY down the road. In the meantime, I plan to clean-up the staircase to the basement, cheering up the view from the dining room.
5. Curtains, Curtains, Curtains
Three sets down, eleven waiting to be made....learning as I go!
About the salvaging....
In November, I posted this blog about the bits and pieces of the original house Jamie was lovingly removing and saving. So far, we've only had a chance to restore doors and return air vents but we are just SO impressed with the results. Not only did we save money and reduce waste, but we're convinced that these tiny details will make our ordinary house, extraordinary.

Cleaned-Up....
The Old Doors
Old...these look not too too bad, but believe me, they were in rough shape and a rainbow of colors.

Thanks to our hardworking mamas, the old doors are like new: sanded and coated in crisp, clean white.
That's it for now!
Happy Hump Day!
God Jamie is lazy.
