Holiday Gift Ideas: Pencil Rolls!

I gave these to all of the special kids in our life last year. The original idea came from The Creative Family, by Amanda Blake Soule. I took her idea (which is simple and perfect, as is) and pumped it up with a little help from this You GO Girl tutorial.

I still consider myself to be a complete newbie when it comes to sewing and I managed to complete 6 gorgeous pencil rolls without much trouble at all! So I'd say this is a "beginner" level project:)

I wish I had pictures of mine, but those were "pre-blog" days, when not every aspect of life was photographed! I used fun, funky fabrics that represented each kid, paired it with an art book whose cover I modge podged with photos of the kids, special quotes/saying and their names Then I filled up the pencil roll with recycled pencils and and erasers and tied it all together with a big bow.

I loved them so much, I wish I'd had one for myself!!

Note: I altered the plan a bit...instead of making ALL pencil pockets, I made a few bigger pockets for over sized pencils/markers and erasers.

Have a great weekend!
