Seasonal Body Support: Fall

Fall is here.....on the weekend I wore a sweater and ate pumpkin fudge. If that doesn't say fall, I don't know what does??

I love this time of year. It's always been my favorite, but it's particularly special this year as the winds of fall, bringing us cooler weather and cosy evenings, also seems to be bringing an easier, more industrious phase of my pregnancy! Not a moment too soon! There is much work to do before baby #2 arrives and we're excitedly diving right in. Now we just need to stay healthy.....

Need to get ready ready for Cold and Flu Season? Listen up!

"On the fall equinox, occurring September 22 or 23rd, day and night are equal in length everywhere on the planet. The sun rises precisely in the east, arcs through the sky for 12 hours and sets exactly in the west, disappearing for another 12 hours. This begins a 6-month period when yin and darkness expand, peaking at the winter solstice, then contracting until they equalize once again at the spring equinox.

Fall is the time to relish the abundance of food at the end of the growing season; to reflect with gratitude on all we have been given in our lives; to seek balance and harmony in our inner and outer worlds; to release physical and emotional baggage; and to cleanse and prepare for a period of deep introspection. It is a time of letting go, particularly of old grief and attachments". - Sat Dharam Kaur

I also think it's a time to knit....

The organs we support in the fall are the lungs, large intestine and skin. It is a time to quit smoking and work on building immunity for the coming winter.

Liver and Bowel Cleansing

Fresh Vegetable Juices
Juice carrots, celery, beets, apples, and dark greens (kale, spinach) with some fresh ginger root and garlic.
Drink 2-4 glasses through the day.

Colonics
There is a new colon hydrotherapy clinic in town. Check out Pure Med for more information on the benefits of colonic cleansing!

Enhancing Immunity
Here's my basic protocol for the upcoming season. You can pick everything up at the clinic!

Muco Coccinum by Unda
A homeopathic combination of bacterial and viral fractions, formulated to stimulate the body's own defenses in order to combat influenza. It is 88% effective in the prevention of influenza and 82% effective in the treatment of primary flu-related symptoms (fever, chills, muscle aches).

Dose (adults, consult ND if pregnant or breastfeeding): 1 tablets under the tongue every 2 weeks from the beginning of autumn to the end of winter.

D-Mulsion 1000 by Genestra
One drop daily

Ultra Flora Plus DF by Metegenics
A probiotic that improves bowel flora and immunity.
Dose: 1 capsule a day

Scorbatate by Genestra
A high concentration of vitamin C in a buffered mineral base. Enhances immunity.
Dose: 1/4 tsp in water or juice once a day, a few hours before/after taking other medications. Again consult an ND if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under 12 years of age.

And, of course, my Herbal Immune Punch!

Dry Skin Brushing and Alternating Showers

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to enhance blood and lymphatic circulation....at home!

1. Before your shower, dry skin brush: Use a long handed, natural bristle back scrubber (or a loofah mitt) to gently brush your skin in soft, circular motions. Start at the soles of your feet, work up your legs and lower abdomen, then up your arms and down your upper torso, always brushing towards the heart.

2. Follow with your morning/evening shower. At the end of your shower begin alternating the temperature, from as warm as you can stand it to as cold as you can stand it (3 minutes hot: cold 30 sec). Do this 3-4 times always ending with cold. Hop out of the shower and bundle up!

Happy Hump Day, Pumpkins!

  2. The modified tapioca starch and maltodextrin?? Hmmm...well I don't LOVE it and for some patients I prescribe the Vit D Baby drops (less "crap", lower dose) but I love this product because of compliance (people love the taste) and affordability.
