Have you ever travelled with a toddler? We've driven, several times, from Kingston, Ontario to Fredericton, New Brunswick. A 12 hour trip.....when all goes well.
Difficult? Maybe. But this will be different. This time we'll be travelling across the Atlantic, crossing time-zones and destroying the ever-precious, life-saving "toddler schedule".
We'll be taking an eight-hour flight, toddler on lap, and arriving in London at 3:30am our time...ready to start the day.
Though we've never done it before, we're counting on some great naturopathic advice and real-mama travel strategies to save our bums.
Here's the plan:
1. Probiotics
We have been, and will continue, to take probiotics. Probiotics help to soothe the digestive system and boost immunity. The last thing we need is upset tummies and fevers. I'll also be dosing the three of us with an astragalus based herbal immune tincture and keeping plenty of Emergen-C on hand (1000mg of Vitamin C we can add to our water) to fight any bugs we might pick up along the way.

2. Keeping hydrated on the flight
Water and watery fruits are key. There is nothing like air travel to suck the water (and the life) out of you! Water and fruit helps to keep hydration and energy levels up, while minimizing headaches and scratchy throats.
3. Rescue Remedy

The is a Bach Flower combination that is great for soothing anxiety and nerves. Excellent for little ones (and BIG ones) who are nervous on planes. Dose 15 drops as needed.
4. Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone that helps to regulate our "circadian rhythm" (our internal clock). 5mg a day, 30 minutes before bed will, hopefully, help us to get on track quickly. Jet-lag be gone!
5. Fresh Air!
This is where the mama-to-mama advice comes in. All of my European friends who make this trip with their children several times a year, swear that keeping their kids outside all day upon arrival helps to re-set their little clocks and get them on-track. So we'll give it go. Instead of heading straight to a hotel for a long, long nap we'll drag our bums all over Covent Garden trying to keep our eyes open so the sun can work it's magic.
Wish Us Luck!
Here's hoping Winnie is just like Kiersten and doesn't understand the meaning of the word jetlag. And you've got us as back up in case you two are suffering and need to recover - LOL! (We have got rice milk, probiotics, organic biccies, what else?)
