Only 6 more days until BirthFest and our Newborn Hat Campaign is gaining momentum!

The nurses and volunteers at Kingston General Hospital donated 500 baby hats! 500! Yesterday I picked up more hats at the Kingston Unitarian Fellowship, there was a sewing bee hosted at "Y Sew" on Princess St. and there are more baby hats coming in everyday from all over the community.

More about the Newborn Hat Campaign
"It takes a village to raise a child. Birth Fest aims to help local women and families create or become connected to their village. This year we would like to grow our village globally. We are partnering with Circle of Health International to raise awareness about maternal and newborn health world-wide. Our idea is to ask YOU, community members, birth fest exhibitors, local craftivist and health care providers who take part in Birth Fest to make hats that fit newborns, by sewing or knitting them, to be sent to a country or program where a small, low cost intervention of keeping a baby warm could make all the difference in the world."
Let me know if you are interested in sewing or knitting some baby hats. I have patterns and information on where to drop them!
Baby Fever!
All of these teeny tiny hats lying around has gotten me thinking about having another teeny tiny little person around. I passed by a mirror holding Winnie the other day and had one of those split-second, subconscious thoughts "Who is that toddler??"
Oh yeah, she's mine! No longer a baby, so big and independent and taking more and more, increasingly steady, steps away from me every day.......'sniff'.
Thankfully, before my baby thoughts got too out of control I opened the most beautiful letter from one of my best friends, S. She had sent a sweet little note along with pictures from her wedding two summers ago. Me, 7 1/2 months pregnant in periwinkle.....then she lovingly wrapped her note and the pictures in a pair of huge post-natal underpants she nicked from a hospital in Winnipeg after she delivered her babe a few months ago. Jamie and I were in hysterics, reminiscing about me - waddling around the house in an identical pair of bloomers just 19 months ago.....baby in sling, tears streaming down my face most hours of the day. When we were done laughing, I thought "Hmmmmn. I could wait a few more months for this!"

I'm sure there are other ways to fill the "baby gap", if only temporarily!
The next 6 days should be easy.....the last push to get
BirthFest organized and brought to life!
By Saturday, I'll be surrounded by bellies and birth and babies!

Hope to see you then!
