At the moment, all of my exercise is happening between 6-7am. It needs to be fast, challenging and effective. For the past 2 months, I’ve been focusing on “boot camp” style workouts – lots of strength and power with bursts of cardio mixed in….all done on my street, some nearby stairs, or front porch in 45 minutes or less. But, alas, I’m finding I need a change as summer approaches. It's time to pick up the intensity......as getting bathing suit ready post-30 seems to be about as easy as whistling dixie with a mouth full of soda crackers.
For more information on boot camp style workouts go to: Taylored Training. They have a free, five week home-workout program on their website, complete with pictures and video! Click here.
To pump up my workouts, I am turning to the pint-sized powerhouse, Tracy Anderson. Trainer to the stars, Anderson has developed a series of home workout videos (and webisodes to come!) that I find challenging, fun...and quick! The first time I did her 40 minute mat series (using no more than 2 lb weights!) I could barely lift my arms the next morning.

Her method is "based on targeting the accessory muscles (the small muscle groups). Strengthening the accessory muscles helps to create a tight knit group of small muscles that actually pull in the larger muscle groups."
The dance cardio DVD is impossible. Don’t even go there. Seriously, I consider myself a fairly coordinated person, but after several hours trying to master one dance sequence on the DVD, I nearly burned the thing. Gwyneth Paltrow reported it took her a year to master the dance series, and she was working one-on-one with Tracy Anderson herself….forget it.
The arm and leg series, however, are amazing. Designed specifically for women, Anderson discourages the use of weights over 3 lbs and designs her programs to lengthen and lean…..When I’m diligent with the workouts I quickly notice a reduction in "wibbly bits"….under the arms, inside the thighs and around the waist.

Check out "Get beach Ready with Tracy Anderson" at Daily Candy. You can click here for a series of moves you can do at home! Also, if you sign up on her website here, you get one free webisode and you have access to an awesome leg series she put together for Gwyneth Paltrow while training for Iron Man II....everything you need, free, to get fit at home!
Always consult your GP or ND before starting an exercise program.
I've been looking a lot lately at Taylored Training's style of workout and love it ! Hoping to get into tire training at some point over the summer. But my favourite workout is still piggy backing the kids (since there are 3, giving them one turn each gives me three sets at incremental weight) while doing squats, sumo squats, lunges, and calf raises
