Dance!

I happy to report that, at the moment, my life is filled with dance. Yesterday, I started the day groovin’ to N.E.R.D and I ended it at The Grand Theatre, downtown Kingston.

This summer, my friend J encouraged me to purchase a dance series at The Grand with her.....and I'm so glad I did. J’s a long time dancer, and dance-lover, and has helped me to embrace (and understand!) dance in all of it’s forms.

Last night we caught Aszure Barton and Artists. It was, by far, the best show we have seen all year. The dancing was dark, eerie, introspective and yet funny, all at the same time! By half-time intermission (sorry! I'm a newbie....) we were both truly in awe.

J and I particularly love the "talk back" or "dance speak" at the end of the show. It's an amazing opportunity to hear the choreographers and the dancers discuss the performance and their work. Originally from Alberta, Aszure Barton is an incredible, young, Canadian talent. She's worked with Mikhail Baryshnikov, danced with The National Ballet of Canada and she just seems really...nice.

I love these shows for so many reasons: time with a friend, a night-out, the beauty, the athleticism, the feeling of being a little more cultured and a little more aware of what is happening in the big world outside Kingston.

It is always a pleasure......and a tradition I hope we continue for many years to come!
