I love working with plants. It's a funny thing because, in school, I wasn't so excited about herbs. I loved acupuncture and homeopathy and nutrition....herbs? Meh.
During the (short) period of time I've been in practice I've grown (groan!) to love herbs. They have become, by far, my favorite treatment option for a number of reasons:
1. The are effective. Herbs work....fast.
2. They are (relatively) safe.
3. There is more to herbs than meets the eye: When using the whole plant, as opposed to specific standardized ingrdients, plants work on a deeper level. They have the ability to unearth the (ever evasive) root cause of disease. As opposed to treating symptoms, plants have the ability to really heal.
Herbs a la Jill
I recently took on the challenge of designing my own herbal combination teas, made from 100% organic wildcrafted herbs. The first 5 teas I put together are geared towards babies, children, pregnant women and new mamas.......though their application extends well beyond the new parent population.
I really couldn't be more excited about the whole thing! I think parents today are taking a more active, informed role in the health of their children. Parents are looking for safe, effective ways to enhance their children's health and I love the fact that I can give parents the tools to treat the occasional cold or tummy ache without having to run to the doctor. It's better for the kids, the parents and the healthcare system!
Here's a sneak peek at some of my favs:

Nourishing Mama Tea
Red Raspberry (Rubus idaeus)
Nettle (Urtica dioica)
Oatstraw (Avena Sativa)
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa)
Rosehips (Rosa canina)
Red Clover (Trifolium pratense)
Spearmint (Mentha spicata)
Children's Herbal Immune Punch
For kids, steep the tea, cool, then dilute with 100% fruit juice.
Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus)
Chamomille (Matricaria recutita)
Elderflowers (Sambucus nigra)
Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
Nettle (Urtica dioica)
Red Clover (Trifolium pratense)
Spearmint (Mentha spicata)

Fever Tea
Children with fevers 101+ degrees F or fevers that persist should, of course, be seen by a doctor!
Elder Flowers (Sambucus nigra)
Catnip (Nepeta cateria)
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Chamomille (Matricaria recutita)
Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)

{The labels are made from partially recycled paper, the ink is low in VOCs and the bags are biodegradable....I'm trying!!!)

Seeing my little tea packages makes me so happy! I kinda wanna jump for joy!
